Extending education resources
to teachers and students

Two important objectives of the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville are:

  1. Reaching out to youth, promoting their interest and understanding of the world
  2. Supporting teachers with resources, enhancing their teaching on global topics

Students and teachers are invited and encouraged to attend the Council’s speaker series: Global Issues Evenings and Global Business Luncheons.

For Students

  1. Academic WorldQuest: A contest for high school students to test their knowledge of international facts covering topics such as geography, political leaders, history and current events.
  2. Great Decisions: An after-school enrichment program for high school students. University and college faculty members serve as discussion leaders using the materials from Great Decisions, which are readings and companion videos on current global issues published by the Foreign Policy Association.
  3. Ambassador Marilyn McAfee Scholarship:An annual $1,200 scholarship awarded to a sophomore or junior at an area university or college.

For Teachers

  1. World in Transition: Teacher workshops and curriculum support materials covering eight regions of the world.
