Connecting and Enlightening
The Magellan Society of the World Affairs Council provides an opportunity for individuals between the ages of 21 and 40 to develop a greater understanding of the world while connecting with others who share an interest in international affairs and the globalization of Northeast Florida.
- Offering a range of programs and activities including cross-cultural exchanges, social and professional networking and opportunities for dialogue on current global issues
- Opportunities abound to engage with Jacksonville’s finest leaders from both the public and private sectors, expanding professional networks and experiential learning
Dialoguing and becoming global citizens
Unique opportunities for members to engage in roundtable discussions with visiting leaders from abroad. These cross-cultural exchanges examine topics such as: leadership and ethics, culture and society, education, government and foreign policy. The Council offers these periodically throughout the year and co-hosts the events with GlobalJax.

Following each Global Issues Evenings, enjoy Happy Hour specials and discuss the night’s presentation in more depth while taking the opportunity to expand your social and business network.
Lunch and learn
Monthly gatherings with Council Board, Advisory Council and community leaders for opportunities to dialogue on issues of the day and professional development.
Charting a course for the future
Providing opportunities to partner with Board and Advisory Board members in an exchange of professional and international interests. Candidates submit an application and, if selected, are paired with a mentor in a similar or related profession. Mentors and protégés engage in a minimum of five informal face-to-face meetings over a period of nine months.
Connecting local to global
A play on the word “salon,” Quarterly Saloons integrate social gatherings with panel discussions connecting the local and global issues of the day.
